Winter arrived just in time for the Winterfest in Coralville this year. Until last week it didn’t look like we were going to get a winter in Iowa this year. Fortunately for all of us the weather gods  smiled down on us and it is suitably cold with a fair amount of snow for this Sunday’s annual celebration of winter at the Iowa River Landing. Fire Department Winterfest Coralville 2011

Record high temps in Coralville today. This is worth sharing considering January is typically a month when I ask myself why I thought relocating to Iowa was a good idea! Especially the last few years we’ve had some pretty rough winters – Extremely cold with lots of snow. It’s human nature to share things when they’re bad and as a Brit that comes particularly easy to me as I come prewired to complain about the weather. (As a nation we are very good at it, just ask my niece, I know she agrees with me.:-) It seems today by way of a change I should share the fact that the weather is phenomenal for January – Sunny skies and close to 60 degrees.

I’m not the only one impressed by the weather either. So are the ducks….

Is This The Demise of Black Friday?

November 23, 2011

Is nothing sacred? Does Thanksgiving now have to go the way of Christmas and revolve around the retail industry? The decision of major retail stores to open at midnight flies in the face of everything Thanksgiving is about. It’s the one day of the year that’s supposed to revolve around families. Even though I’m not [...]

October 26, 2011

The Rocky Horror Show is a Halloween favorite. This weekend you can choose to see the freaked out musical performed at the CCPA in Coralville or go the more standard route and take in the cult movie at the Englert or the Bijou Theatre in Iowa City. (Although I’m not sure the word standard has [...]
