Spring in Full Swing in Iowa City – March 21, 2012

This morning I showed a home at 8.45 am. That alone is worth writing about, since I’m not much of a morning person. One of the reasons I got into real estate was the perceived flexibility of the profession. Turns out that’s a myth. If you want to make a living in real estate you need to be available when folks want to view homes. And since they have jobs you need to be available on their time line. That would be primarily mornings, evenings and weekends. Myth busted. There are a lot of myths surrounding my profession. I don’t want to go there now though. Believe it or not I want to talk about the weather!

So there I am on the North East Side of Iowa City showing homes at 8.45 am and guess what, I’m wearing a short sleeved shirt! According to the calendar it was the first day of Spring yesterday, I know that. Typically that doesn’t mean a lot in Iowa. Typically the trees are still bare. There’s often snow still around and the temps are chilly to say the least. Typically Spring doesn’t arrive in Iowa until around mid April. Not this year. Today the daffodils and bluebells are blooming. The tulips are thinking about it and the trees are shooting buds all over the place!

To say I’m impressed would be an understatement. I’m really good at complaining about the weather. I’m a Brit. It’s part of our DNA. (Considering just what an inclement climate the UK has you can see why that is). This winter in Iowa there has been nothing to complain about and here we are, it’s March 21 and Spring is already in full swing…
