Summer in Iowa City – July 4th Celebrations and Firework Display

Right on the heels of the Iowa City Jazz Festival, we barely have time to turn around before the Independence Day Celebrations are upon us! This year the City of Iowa City and the Iowa City Downtown District are teaming up for the July 4th Celebrations with a Community Picnic scheduled in the downtown area.4th of July Fireworks Downtown Iowa City They’re inviting residents to head downtown on Wednesday evening with their blankets and lawn chairs for the 4th of July Celebrations. In true Iowa City style there will be family fun and live music, rounded off with the annual Fireworks Display.

Schedule of Events – July 4th Celebrations and Firework Display 2012

Events kick off at 5.30pm on Iowa Ave with an inflatable circus bounce and slide for the kids. There will also be a radar speed pitch machine to test your fastball.

Tony Brown, the award winning blues, reggae, funk musician will be performing on the Pentacrest  from 7.00pm – 9.30pm.

All of this of course in anticipation of the 4th of July Firework Display scheduled at Hubbard Park at dusk. (Around 9.45pm)

All events are free. Even parking is free downtown at the City Ramps.

I’m pretty sure it’s going to be a zoo downtown on Wednesday for the 4th of July Celebrations so I’d suggest you get there early to secure parking. And if you need an added incentive to go, stop by at the information tent and water station on Iowa Ave to register for the 4th of July drawing for a $100 community gift card. All you need to do is predict the exact minute of the last firework of the evening, and you’ll be in with a chance!
