Things to Do Downtown Iowa City June 8 – 9, 2012

As part of Iowa City’s Summer of the Arts Program we have the Friday Night Concert Series, The Saturday Night Concert Series and the Free Movie Series all lined up for this weekend in downtown Iowa City. Both Concert Series take place outside the Sheraton Hotel, at the Weather Dance Fountain on the Ped Mall.

Friday June 8 Bambu will be taking the stage. With band members from Jamaica, Argentina, Venezuela and the US I’m thinking they’ll have some pretty interesting music to play. The show starts outside the Sheraton at the Weather Dance Fountain at 6.30pm and ends at 9.30pm.

Saturday June 9 Natty Nation will be playing their brand of Wisconsin reggae. I always think of  reggae as the ultimate “feel good” music. It’s hard to feel down when you listen to reggae.  The show starts outside the Sheraton at the Weather Dance Fountain at 6.30pm and ends at 9.00pm.

Saturday June 9 is the first movie this year in the Free Movie Series at the UI Pentacrest. This week’s movie is Night At the Museum. It’s going to be hot this weekend folks, so pick a spot outside Macbride Hall under one of the trees offering shade there and enjoy!  Movies start at sundown, so figure on anywhere from 8:20 – 9 p.m.
